Led by the Spirit- Sanctification or Charismata?

The big secret behind sanctification, Paul's reoccurring theme, how works are produced: "Walk by the Spirit" "led of the Spirit" "Mind set on the Spirit" "according to the Spirit" "raised by the Spirit" "His Spirit dwells in you" "Filled with the Spirit".  Spirit filled and led is not about charismatic gifts or miracles, when we portray being led by the Spirit in this way it detracts from the truth that being led by the Spirit is all about sanctification!  Becoming more holy not charismata.  There is a tri-unity within the Christian life which is Evangelism--Sanctification--Edification.  All three are equally important and the Spirit has active roles in each.

Let us look at many of the verses I slightly quoted above:

Galatians 5:16-26
(16)But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.  (17)  For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.  (18)  But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.  (19)  Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,  (20)  idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,  (21)  envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.  (22)  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  (23)  gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.  (24)  Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.  (25)  If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.  (26)  Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another.

Romans 8:4-7
(4)so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.  (5)  For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.  (6)  For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace,  (7)  because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so,

Romans 8:9
However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

Romans 8:13-15
(13)for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.  (14)  For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.  (15)  For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!"

There is a great amount of faith in these verses and a huge amount not quoted.  We must take up our cross daily and walk by the Spirit, for only following the Holy Spirit may we be sanctified!  Holiness and righteousness are not to be treated as some lofty thing we cannot attain in this life. Most assuredly my brothers and sisters if you are in fact filled with the Holy Spirit you are holy and righteous and on the narrow path which is a sanctifying journey.  Sanctification along with a desire to evangelize and edify is the assurance of our salvation, faith without works is dead- only the truly regenerate seek what is right.
